Economy28/02/2008Uzbekistan attracts US$1.285bn of foreign investments in 2007
The country used US$1.013 billion of foreign direct investments and unguaranteed credits, which is more by 58% year-on-year.
The share of international financial institutions in total volume of attracted investments made up 9.5%. Asian Development Bank invested US$55.31 million, Islamic Development Bank – 38.92 million and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) – US$26.89 million.
Over 40 countries invested into Uzbekistan. The share of CIS stated made up 36.3%, Europe – 21.9% and Southern-Eastern Asia and Asia – 18.2%. About 57% of investments were directed to processing industry.
Russia accounted about 36.3% of total investments into Uzbekistan, followed by Switzerland (12.7%). Malaysia invested over US$41.48 million, UK – US$40.13 million and Turkey – US$23.88 million.
Japan increased its investments threefold to US$67.31 million and China’s investments rose by 1.7 times to US$67 million.
