Uzbekistan at COP29: "Sustainability Within" – Traditional Hospitality at the Heart of a Green World

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 11 November, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will open in Baku, Azerbaijan, under the slogan “In Solidarity for a Green World.”

At COP29, the government of Uzbekistan will present its National Pavilion, inspired by the architectural concept of the traditional Uzbek courtyard, or *hovli*, the heart of every home, where each morning begins with warmth and care. This center of family life, surrounded by greenery and grapevines, symbolizes a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

The pavilion is constructed using sustainable, traditional materials from Uzbekistan and time-tested methods adapted to the country's climate. It reflects traditional elements like earthen plaster, *ayvan* (open-air veranda), and *tapchan* (elevated platform bed). Together, these elements create a cozy, eco-friendly space.

Earthen plaster stabilizes temperature and adds warmth to the home, the *ayvan* provides a cool and open area for socializing, and the *tapchan* serves as the family relaxation center. Combined, they embody cultural values such as respect for nature, family traditions, and comfort within the Uzbek household.

Uzbekistan’s pavilion, "Sustainability Within," showcases traditional values and approaches shaped by the country's unique culture, history, and natural environment. It will serve as a platform to highlight sustainable development and Uzbekistan’s renowned hospitality within a green world of the future.
