Uzbekistan and World Bank discuss issues of social protection of the population

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 September 2018, a meeting with representatives of the World Bank (WB) was held in the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

One of the main topics of discussion was pension reform in Uzbekistan. The World Bank expressed its readiness to provide both technical assistance and expert support in the preparation of proposals on this issue until the end of the first quarter of 2019.

Issues related to social protection and support of vulnerable segments of the population were also discussed.

It was planned to develop and implement an automated information system of the “Single Register of Social Protection”, through which the state will be able to find groups in need of social support to provide timely assistance, during the tariff reform reforms, in order to preserve the social stability of citizens.

The implementation of a strong social policy is the most important principle of the national model of market reforms in Uzbekistan.

WB experts, in turn, also offered assistance in developing methods for indirect assessment of household incomes with a lack (or lack) of information on their direct incomes.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the World Bank shared plans to provide a soft loan of US$50 million to the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations for small and mini projects, including increasing the capacity of employment promotion centers, financing programs that promote employment and the introduction of a monitoring and evaluation.
