Uzbekistan and WHO discussed the achievement of common goals in the field of health and sustainable development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Belgium with the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the European Union Oksana Domenti, Dunyo news agency reported.

The WHO representative noted that the countries of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, are actively working to achieve common goals in the field of health and sustainable development.

As part of cooperation with the Central Asian region, with the support of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, a Roadmap for 2022-2025 has been developed.

The adoption of this document is driven by multiple and intersecting large-scale crises affecting the countries of Central Asia, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate change crisis and other contemporary challenges.

This document brings together the efforts of the countries of Central Asia and partners to achieve political, investment and technical objectives that are in line with the main priorities of the European Program of Work for 2020-2025.

One component of this program is Joint Action for Better Health, which aims to address the root causes of ill health and prevent major deficiencies in health systems.

The countries of Central Asia formulated 11 areas of action and 32 reform initiatives that formed the basis of the Roadmap.

These directions and initiatives formed the basis of the document based on an analysis of indicators in the field of health and well-being of each country, national priorities, and statements by the Ministers of Health of the Central Asian states.

The ultimate goal of the comprehensive document was to engage all stakeholders in the provision of ongoing coordinated support by channeling political, investment and technical resources to accelerate the implementation of joint actions in accordance with the priorities of the region in the field of health and well-being.

In general, efforts are aimed at reducing the burden of infectious diseases, strengthening sanitary and epidemiological safety, identifying emergencies, creating a healthy and environmentally friendly living environment, and combating antimicrobial resistance.
