Uzbekistan and UNICEF agree to strengthen cooperation in child and youth protection
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 19 March 2025, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with Regina Maria Castillo, Head of UNICEF’s Representative Office in Uzbekistan. The discussions focused on key aspects of bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to child protection, improvements in the social welfare system, and support for youth.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan is consistently implementing reforms aimed at ensuring the comprehensive development of children and young people. In particular, the parties discussed measures to enhance the quality of education, improve healthcare services, foster an inclusive environment, and strengthen the mental well-being of the younger generation.
Special emphasis was placed on improving educational infrastructure, including schools and preschools, as well as strengthening mechanisms for child social protection. The sides also explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in professional training for specialists working with children and youth.
Tanzila Narbayeva and Regina Maria Castillo expressed their commitment to elevating the partnership between Uzbekistan and UNICEF to a new level. The plans include more effective implementation of ongoing projects and the development of new initiatives aimed at safeguarding children's rights and interests.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed that strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNICEF is a crucial step toward creating sustainable conditions for child and youth development, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They also expressed readiness for continued active collaboration to improve the quality of life for the younger generation in Uzbekistan.
