Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) have signed a national roadmap aimed at facilitating trade in the country.
The document was signed by Azizbek Urunov, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for World Trade Organization (WTO) issues, and Tatiana Molchan, the Executive Secretary of the UNECE. The roadmap was developed with UNECE’s support.
The roadmap is a strategic plan that will guide trade facilitation reforms in Uzbekistan over the next five years.
The document outlines measures to transform trade, including the implementation of WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement standards, the promotion of digitization through the transition to electronic documents for import and export operations, and enhancing Uzbekistan’s status as a key logistics and transit hub.
For Uzbekistan, which is a landlocked country, this roadmap is of particular importance. It will help reduce trade costs, optimize procedural aspects, and improve transport connectivity with other countries, utilizing UNECE tools and UN/CEFACT standards.
In the context of Uzbekistan’s planned WTO accession in 2026, this step is not only a significant achievement but also part of the country’s strategy for sustainable growth and global economic integration.
