Uzbekistan and Türkiye Aim to Increase Trade Turnover to US$5 Billion Within Two Years

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Türkiye, Ilkhom Khaydarov, held a meeting with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, the Dunyo news agency reported.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of trade, economic, and investment cooperation. It was noted that by the end of 2024, mutual trade turnover had reached US$3 billion. Both sides emphasized the need for active measures to raise this figure to US$5 billion within the next two years.

The Turkish side expressed confidence that there are substantial reserves to achieve the set goals, highlighting the competitiveness of both countries’ products in international markets. Special attention was given to the opportunities created by the Preferential Trade Agreement signed by Türkiye with Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Iran.

The talks also addressed the reduction of tariff and non-tariff barriers for Uzbek exporters, including the lowering of additional import duties on electrical, textile, and cable-conductor products, as well as the removal of restrictions on the import of certain fruits and vegetables.

The parties reached an agreement to enhance cooperation in the field of product inspection, certification, and quality control by facilitating the establishment of Turkish laboratories in Uzbekistan.
