Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has completed bilateral negotiations with the United States regarding its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was announced by Azizbek Urunov, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for WTO matters, on his LinkedIn page.
“After 14 months of active negotiations, I am pleased to announce their successful completion with the United States — the 21st country on our path to WTO membership,” Urunov noted.
He added that it was a challenging yet engaging and valuable experience that allowed for substantive discussions.
At the end of October, Uzbekistan also held meetings with the negotiating team of the People's Republic of China.
“In continuation of our previous discussions, significant progress was made in the market access (MA) negotiations over two days. Negotiations on services were successfully concluded, while for goods, where only minor issues remained, we agreed to work together to resolve them by the end of the year,” Urunov reported.
According to the World Bank, Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO could lead to an additional 17% growth in its economy over the next 5-7 years following membership.
It was previously reported that Uzbekistan plans to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) before the 14th Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Cameroon in 2026.
