Uzbekistan and the United States signed a memorandum of cooperation in the leather industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairman of the Uzcharmsanoat Association Fakhriddin Boboev held talks with Steven Sothmann, President of the US Leather and Hide Council (LHCA). During the meeting, the parties considered ways to establish exports of leather goods and finished leather products to the American market.

LHCA was reorganized in 2020. It consists of more than 100 companies active in the US leather sector. 90% of the hides and skins produced in the country are exported. The proceeds from foreign trade operations amount to 2 billion dollars.

The President of the American Council noted that in the current geopolitical conditions, the United States is looking for new partners to establish cooperation. Given that Uzbekistan is increasingly introducing international quality certificates such as LWG and SLF, the council expressed its readiness to establish trade cooperation with tanners in Uzbekistan.

As a result of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

As part of the dialogue, online meetings were also held with representatives of Virginia's Leather Company and Imperial Tanning Company, which are members of the LHCA. The companies expressed interest in exporting leather II and III processing stages from Uzbekistan: "Krast" and "Finish". As a result of negotiations, it was decided to send skin samples to company representatives in the near future.

LHCA management, as well as American tanners, are invited to participate in the international exhibition UzCharmExpo-Eurasia-2023.
