Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation discussed the expansion of supplies of oil and oil products

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 April, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak in Moscow.

The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the gas, oil, electric power industries, including renewable energy and hydropower projects, as well as in the field of nuclear construction.

The possibilities of increasing the supply of oil and oil products from Russia and cooperation in projects in the energy sector were discussed.

“We highly appreciate the fraternal nature of Russian-Uzbek relations. Despite the ongoing geopolitical tension, Russian-Uzbek ties of strategic partnership and alliance are actively developing. Comprehensive work continues to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation,” said Alexander Novak.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed the possibility of Rosatom’s participation in the construction of new nuclear power facilities.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation invited Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov to take part in three important international industry events: the first Caucasian Investment Exhibition, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg and the Russian Energy Week in Moscow.

In 2022, trade between Russia and Uzbekistan increased by 26% compared to 2021. At the same time, Russian exports increased by 17.7%, imports – by 51.3% year-on-year. In 2023, the upward trend continues. In January, trade increased by 24.6% compared to the same period in 2022.

Russia remains one of the key investors in the economy of Uzbekistan. Russian companies, including those in the fuel and energy sector, are increasing investments in the country’s economy and have begun developing 19 new joint projects in 2022.
