Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 November 2024, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov, met with the EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Toivo Klaar, to discuss environmental cooperation between the two sides. Minister Abdukhakimov highlighted Uzbekistan’s participation in COP29 in Baku.
The parties discussed the implementation of joint projects, including those related to chemical conventions scheduled for completion by 2026.
The Minister emphasized the importance of €4 million in technical assistance from the EU for implementing the Stockholm, Basel, and Rotterdam Conventions (BRS) under the GSP+ framework.
Other topics included the reclamation of uranium mining sites with the support of the EBRD and Uzbekistan’s environmental initiatives, such as the establishment of the Climate Council and the "Yashil Makon" project.
Both sides expressed hope for continued cooperation, including programs like Erasmus+, and agreed to further strengthen collaboration in environmental protection and climate change mitigation.
