Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank strengthen cooperation in technical regulation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Agency for Technical Regulation held a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation. Both parties underscored the importance of further strengthening their partnership across all economic sectors of Uzbekistan, according to the Agency’s press service.

Key issues discussed during the meeting focused on the modernization of the national technical regulation system. Specifically, the discussions covered the role of standards in accessing WTO member markets, engaging international experts to align national legislation with international norms, and ADB’s provision of technical assistance and grants. Special attention was given to the EU’s GSP+ preferential system and the training of highly qualified specialists in technical regulation.

The Agency representatives presented plans to establish modern laboratories focused on green energy, improving the quality and safety of construction materials, electrical engineering, and energy efficiency.

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to further enhance cooperation between the Agency and ADB in both bilateral and multilateral formats. The parties intend to collaborate on projects aimed at developing and modernizing Uzbekistan’s technical regulation system, which will contribute to the country’s integration into the global economy and boost the competitiveness of its products in international markets.
