Uzbekistan and Russia strengthen cooperation in nuclear and radiation safety

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the development of bilateral cooperation, a meeting was held between Alexander Trembitsky, Head of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision (Rostechnadzor) of Russia, and Abdusamat Rafikov, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged information on the structure, functions, and responsibilities of their respective agencies in the field of industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety. Special attention was given to discussing prospects for further collaboration between the two countries.

As a result of the talks, the parties agreed to develop a Joint Action Plan for 2025–2026. During the visit, the Uzbek delegation was introduced to the operations of Rostechnadzor’s Information and Analytical Center, which plays a key role in ensuring safety and monitoring within the nuclear energy sector.

Additionally, the delegation is scheduled to visit scientific and technical support organizations of Rostechnadzor, including the Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (NTC YARB) and the All-Russian Research Institute for Nuclear Safety (VO "Bezopasnost"), as well as take part in a technical tour of the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant. These activities will allow Uzbek specialists to familiarize themselves with advanced Russian technologies and practices in nuclear safety.

Cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in this field is based on an agreement signed on November 19, 2021, in Moscow and Tashkent. The document outlines collaboration in regulating nuclear and radiation safety in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

The strengthening of partnerships in the nuclear sector highlights the mutual interest of both countries in enhancing safety and adopting modern technologies, contributing to the sustainable development of the region’s energy sector.
