Uzbekistan and Russia are discussing concluding a long-term contract for gas supply

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Russian gas supplies, which began under a two-year contract from October 2023, significantly contribute to the stabilization of the economy of Uzbekistan. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Oleg Malginov in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

“Russian gas has begun to flow, and this is a significant contribution to the stabilization of the economy and social sphere of Uzbekistan. Last year it was a little cold, but thanks to gas supplies this year everything went smoothly,” the diplomat noted.

He noted that Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation are discussing concluding a long-term contract with a gradual increase in supply volumes.

According to him, the relationship between Uzbekistan and Russia in the economic sphere is not limited only to gas supplies.

“Our relationship is so broad that it is difficult to point out an area in which we do not cooperate. During the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Russia in early October 2023, agreements were signed and instructions were issued, including about 65 points, which the presidents instructed their governments to implement soon,” Malginov emphasized.

He also noted that the Uzbek-Russian intergovernmental commission has identified more than 80 projects that are currently in the process of implementation.

“In general, we can say that our trade relations are developing, despite the difficulties in the world. Russia has almost reached a trade turnover of US$10 billion in 2023, US$9.8 billion to be exact, and this is not the limit. Russia is the country that most actively purchases Uzbek goods,” the ambassador added.
