Uzbekistan and NATO discuss prospects for cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Head of the Mission of Uzbekistan to NATO, Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov met with newly appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance for Politics and Security, Special Representative for Central Asia and the Caucasus Javier Kolomin, Dunyo news agency reported.

It was noted that Uzbekistan considers the Alliance as an important partner in countering modern security threats and advocates the development of cooperation on the entire spectrum of issues of mutual interest.

It was emphasized that thanks to joint efforts, the dialogue between Uzbekistan and NATO will continue to develop in the interests of both sides.

The NATO representative was informed about the ongoing reforms to develop the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan, improve professional knowledge and skills, intellectual and psychological training of military personnel.

One of the important directions in this area is the further expansion of military and military-technical cooperation with foreign partners.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and NATO within the framework of the Alliance’s Partnership for Peace program, as well as contacts for the future.
