Uzbekistan and Mongolia discuss reforms and green energy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 January 2025, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Ilkhom Umrzakov held a meeting with representatives of a Mongolian delegation.

The Mongolian delegation included Jamba Lkhagva, Energy Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister; Irmuun Demberel, Advisor to the Prime Minister; Yeren-Ulzii Batmunkh, Director General for Strategy and Planning at the Ministry of Finance; and other officials. On the Uzbek side, senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance participated in the discussions.

The key focus of the talks was the ongoing systemic economic reforms in both countries, with particular emphasis on the development of the energy sector. The parties addressed pressing issues related to energy security and sustainable development.

The significance of Uzbekistan’s energy sector reforms was highlighted, drawing strong interest from the Mongolian side. Delegation members expressed their willingness to study Uzbekistan’s experience in electricity tariff formation, market stability, and energy sector development.

Green energy projects also formed an important part of the discussions. Both countries expressed interest in further developing clean and sustainable technologies, aligning with their shared commitment to environmental balance and carbon emission reductions.

Additionally, the parties discussed public-private partnership (PPP) projects, examining the role of ministries and agencies in implementing such initiatives. The Mongolian side explored successful PPP examples in Uzbekistan and the potential adaptation of these practices in Mongolia.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
