Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to increase checkpoints capacity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The capacity of checkpoints on the border of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will be increased three times, the Kazinform news agency reports.

A special working group, including representatives of the customs and border services of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, discussed repair work at the Zhibek Zholy - Gishtkuprik and Kaplanbek - Navoi customs posts.

According to the representative of the Customs Committee, Farkhod Allamjonov, the Kaplanbek - Navoi checkpoint, which is currently under reconstruction, is planned to open this year. “Uzbekistan plans to complete the work by June, and Kazakhstan by August.

After these points are put into operation, the volume of cargo transportation here is expected to triple,” he added.

According to him, the renovation of another border checkpoint, Gishtkuprik, is planned to be completed in August. As a result of modernization, the checkpoint capacity will increase from 30 to 50 thousand passengers and from 1 to 3 thousand cars per day.

Moreover, the renovation of the Gishtkuprik customs point will make it possible to simultaneously inspect 12 cars and 9 buses at customs.

In turn, the representative of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Slyamov noted that the reconstruction of the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint will be completed in 2025, which will lead to an increase in throughput to 35 thousand people per day.

Currently, the Kazakh side is also carrying out repairs at the Kazygurt, Atameken and Kaplanbek customs posts, which will be completed this year.
