Uzbekistan and Japan discuss opportunities for joint projects and IT education programs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The Minister of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with Kyosuke Nagata, President of the University of Tsukuba and the Association of National Universities of Japan.

The discussion focused on expanding scientific and technological cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan and on training professionals in information and communication technology (ICT). Kyosuke Nagata expressed his support for leveraging Japanese expertise in IT specialist training in Uzbekistan, highlighting the importance of teaching all students basic IT and data analysis skills. He noted that students across disciplines, even in arts and design, can innovate through IT knowledge.

Minister Shermatov emphasized the importance of bringing international expertise to Uzbek students in ICT and enhancing study opportunities with Japanese universities, especially in this field. He also mentioned Uzbekistan’s dedication to providing local job opportunities to encourage young people to remain in the country. Creating remote jobs with Japanese companies would provide numerous opportunities for ICT training.

The Minister added that youth employment in Uzbekistan could benefit from projects implemented in collaboration with Japanese companies. He noted the country’s favorable investment environment for foreign IT companies, aimed at transforming Uzbekistan into an IT hub for international investors, including those from Japan.

The meeting concluded with discussions on joint research and IT education projects with the University of Tsukuba and other Japanese universities. Plans were also reviewed to develop new, internationally-aligned ICT curricula, foster scientific and technological partnerships, and bring Japanese experts to Uzbekistan.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward preparing skilled ICT specialists, developing digital skills among youth, and enriching educational and technological ties between Japan and Uzbekistan.
