Uzbekistan and Italy launch new joint projects in automotive engineering and sustainable technologies
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 21 to 23 May 2025, a delegation from the joint-stock company Uzavtosanoat paid a working visit to the Italian Republic.
The visit’s agenda included a series of key meetings, negotiations, and business events aimed at strengthening cooperation in the automotive sector, introducing advanced technologies, and implementing joint investment initiatives.
A highlight of the visit was the meeting with Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of Turin. During the discussion, both sides explored opportunities to expand collaboration in mechanical engineering. An initiative was proposed to hold regular joint forums, with Tashkent suggested as a potential host city for the next event. Preliminary agreement was also reached to organize a business forum in Uzbekistan in 2026, featuring industrial companies from Turin.
On 23 May, a business forum titled “New Opportunities for Cooperation Between Italy and the Republic of Uzbekistan in Automotive Engineering” was held in Turin with the support of the Union of Industrial Enterprises of the city. The event brought together representatives of more than 120 Italian companies.
The Uzavtosanoat delegation showcased Uzbekistan’s investment potential in the automotive industry and held a series of B2B meetings with leading manufacturers including Webasto, Magna, Marelli, Sogefi, Pininfarina, and others. Discussions focused on the prospects for localizing automotive component production in Uzbekistan and launching joint projects.
To systematically advance the agreements reached, working groups have been established, and reciprocal visits by Italian business representatives to Uzbekistan are expected in the near future.
The visit also placed special emphasis on academic and scientific cooperation. Talks were held with Stefano Paolo Corgnati, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Turin (POLITO), resulting in the signing of a partnership agreement for the 2025/2026 academic year. The agreement provides for the implementation of joint educational programs, the involvement of Italian faculty, academic support, and the issuance of internationally recognized diplomas.
In addition, an agreement was reached to allocate grant funding through Italy’s Green Fund to support an innovative project for the introduction of hydrogen-powered public transport and the development of related infrastructure in Uzbekistan.
This working visit underscored the strong mutual interest in deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of industry, education, and sustainable technologies, marking another significant step toward a strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Italy.
