Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Today, within the framework of the Uzbek-Indian Business Forum in Tashkent, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khojaev, and the Minister of Finance of India, Nirmala Sitharaman, signed a Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA).
This document guarantees proper protection for Uzbek investors in India and Indian investors in Uzbekistan in accordance with international practices.
The BIA will enhance the comfort level for investment activities and strengthen investor confidence, ensuring a minimum standard of treatment and non-discrimination while providing mechanisms for dispute resolution through arbitration. The agreement also protects investments from expropriation, ensures transparency, and allows for transfers and compensation for losses.
The signing of the BIA reflects the mutual commitment of both countries to strengthen trade and economic cooperation and create a more reliable and sustainable investment environment. It is expected that the document signed today will pave the way for increasing bilateral investments, benefiting businesses and economies in both countries.
