Uzbekistan and Hungary Discuss Supply of Dry Cooling Towers for Nuclear Power Plant Construction

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 July 2025, negotiations are taking place in Tashkent between representatives of the Nuclear Energy Development Agency “Uzatom,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Hungarian companies MVM EGI Zrt., Pólus, OTP Bank Uzbekistan, as well as Russian corporations JSC “Atomstroyexport” and JSC “Atomenergoproekt.”

The meeting is part of preparations for the launch of a key phase in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

A central topic on the agenda is the implementation of dry cooling technologies, which involve the supply and production of advanced cooling towers—an essential component for ensuring the stable and efficient operation of the future nuclear power facility.

Special attention was given to the prospects for localizing the production of these cooling towers within Uzbekistan, including the potential establishment of a joint venture in one of the country’s free economic zones.

This approach aims to strengthen national participation in the project and create a foundation for technological and industrial growth in the region.

Personnel training was also discussed in detail. Representatives of the Hungarian company MVM EGI Zrt. confirmed their readiness to support the training and retraining of specialists, including organizing educational programs, internships, and providing the necessary conditions for skills development.

Participants emphasized the strategic importance of this partnership, noting that the development of open and mutually beneficial cooperation will serve as the foundation for the successful implementation of one of the largest energy projects in Central Asia. Negotiations are ongoing and remain in an active phase.
