Uzbekistan and Huawei sign memorandum on digital technology development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 3 to 6 March, the prestigious international conference MWC Barcelona 2025, dedicated to information and communication technologies, took place in Barcelona.

As part of the event, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, held talks with Huawei’s President for the Middle East and Central Asia, Philip Gan.

The parties acknowledged the successful implementation of joint digitalization projects. Notably, the launch of the Remote Services Center enabled Uzbekistan to export IT services worth US$10 million to over 20 countries in 2024, creating 300 new jobs.

Discussions also covered Huawei’s initiatives for developing digital talent, including the Seeds for the Future and ICT Academy programs. In 2024, Seeds for the Future marked its 10th anniversary in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek team won a silver medal at the Tech4Good competition, while 12 students completed internships in Shenzhen and Shanghai. Additionally, two Uzbek teams participated in the regional ICT Competition in Saudi Arabia.

Another key topic was the testing of the 5.5G network during ICT Week Uzbekistan 2024, marking a significant step toward the country’s digital transformation.

Special attention was given to the upcoming Tech Carnival 2025, scheduled for May in Tashkent, which will bring together leading ICT industry players from across the region.

The discussions also reviewed the findings of a joint study conducted by Huawei, the Center for Digital Economy Research, and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) — Uzbekistan Digital Economy Overview and Vision 2030.

Following the meeting, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies and Huawei signed a Memorandum of Understanding, outlining key areas of cooperation, including:

  • The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, education, and finance;
  • Accelerating the digital economy by expanding ICT infrastructure;
  • Training highly skilled IT professionals and digital transformation leaders;
  • Organizing major international ICT events in Uzbekistan.

Additionally, UZINFOCOM and local telecom operators signed cooperation agreements with Huawei.
