Uzbekistan and Eritrea Establish Diplomatic Relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 11 July, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State of Eritrea signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations. The news was announced by Eritrea’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The two sides agreed to establish official ties at the level of their permanent missions to the UN. The document was signed by Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ulugbek Lapasov, and his Eritrean counterpart, Sophia Tesfamariam Yohannes.

According to the official statement, the signing of the communiqué marks an important step in developing bilateral cooperation, which will be based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

Eritrea is located in the northeastern part of the African continent, in the Horn of Africa. The country borders Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, and also has a coastline along the Red Sea.
