Uzbekistan and Egypt strengthen trade and economic cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 24 December 2024, a series of events took place in Tashkent aimed at developing trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt.

The meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, laid the foundation for further development of the partnership.

The parties noted the twofold increase in trade turnover between the two countries last year and the continued positive dynamics in the current year. Significant growth was observed in exports from Uzbekistan to Egypt, including yarn, petroleum products, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, agricultural products, and services.

There are currently 15 enterprises in Uzbekistan with Egyptian participation, implementing projects in food industry, geological exploration, and modernization of water supply systems.

At the 7th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, current projects were reviewed, timelines for their implementation were set, and responsible parties were assigned.

During the business forum, which brought together more than 150 representatives of major companies from Uzbekistan and Egypt (such as El Sewedy Electric, Hassan Allam Holding, ACDIMA, EPICO, etc.), investment projects in digital technologies, education, pharmaceuticals, food industry, agriculture, and tourism were presented.

The program included B2B and B2G meetings.

As a result, the Protocol of the 7th Meeting of the Uzbek-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission and a series of bilateral agreements were signed, including cooperation in environmental protection, regional collaboration (Samarkand region and Alexandria), archaeology (Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt and the Center for Islamic Civilization of Uzbekistan), education (Ain Shams University and Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies), and pharmaceuticals (Agency for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry and ACDIMA).
