Uzbekistan and EBRD to develop measures for enhancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Ilkhom Norqulov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held a bilateral meeting with Jean-Pierre Nacci, Managing Director of the Climate Strategy and Implementation Department at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

During the talks, the parties discussed steps for implementing the cooperation memorandum with EBRD as part of a decarbonization strategy valued at $200 million, as well as transitioning to a "green" economy.

Particular attention was given to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sectors such as industry, agriculture, services, and manufacturing. Measures to enhance energy efficiency, introduce sustainable development principles (ESG), and expand export potential through obtaining international certifications were also discussed.

The parties also reviewed the Star Venture program, which aims to support high-potential startups and SMEs by providing grants, expert assistance, and facilitating their transition to a "green" economy.

Under this program, implemented by EBRD, startups and accelerators gain access to expert advice, funding, international cooperation, and work in partnership with governments, corporations, and venture funds.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on further steps to expand cooperation in the areas of sustainable development and the "green" economy in Uzbekistan, as well as on jointly implementing projects in this field.
