Uzbekistan and China sign contract for locomotive fleet renewal

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 15 August, a contract was signed between Uzbekistan Temir Yullari and the Chinese company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive for the modernization and renewal of Uzbekistan’s locomotive fleet.

This agreement aligns with the accords reached between the heads of state during President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s high-level visit to the People’s Republic of China.

The contract was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari Zufar Narzullaev and the President of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Wang Xiaolin.

According to the agreement, the Chinese company will modernize 12 “Uzbekistan” series electric locomotives currently in use on the country’s railways. Additionally, they will supply 38 freight and passenger electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, and shunting locomotives under deferred payment terms until 2034.

This agreement is expected to significantly enhance the condition and efficiency of the locomotive fleet at Uzbekistan Temir Yullari, which will, in turn, contribute to the development of the country’s railway sector and improve the quality of transportation services.
