Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During her working visit to Saint Petersburg for the Council session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with the Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova.
During the negotiations, both sides highlighted the steady development of Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations, which are based on strategic partnership and a trustful dialogue between the heads of state. They emphasized the importance of activating inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has reached a new level in recent years due to regular contacts, mutual visits, and joint initiatives.
Particular attention was given to the successful organization of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (April 2025, Tashkent), which has received support from the global community. The key role of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in implementing this large-scale project was noted.
Gratitude was also expressed to Azerbaijan for hosting the conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Spirit.
New Initiatives in Parliamentary Cooperation
The sides discussed preparations for the first Uzbek-Azerbaijani Forum of Women Parliamentarians. To facilitate its organization, an agreement was reached to form a friendship group.
As a result of the meeting, both parties confirmed their readiness to deepen inter-parliamentary dialogue, expand the bilateral agenda, and strengthen coordination within international organizations.
