Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 21 to 23, 2025, a meeting was held in Tashkent with an Afghan delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Public Works for Railway Affairs, M.I. Sokhibzoda.

During negotiations with the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Makhkamov, the parties discussed ways to expedite the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project and agreed to jointly organize further work on this initiative.

Additionally, to strengthen cooperation between the railway administrations of the two countries, an agreement was reached to extend the contract for the operation and maintenance of the “Hairaton – Mazar-i-Sharif” railway line.

It was noted that the operator responsible for maintaining this railway line will remain "Sogdiana Trans" LLC, a subsidiary of JSC "Uzbekistan Railways."
