Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan with representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss the transition to a green economy and the greenhouse gas emissions trading system.

The discussions covered ongoing reforms and projects related to the green economy transition. Particular focus was given to the implementation of a voluntary greenhouse gas trading system, measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, green energy certificates, and green energy initiatives. The ministry also presented the taxonomy system and current collaborations with international organizations and countries.

Proposals were made regarding the creation of a national emissions trading system (ETS) and the introduction of a carbon tax. These proposals will be examined based on international best practices, considering their impact on economic growth, social aspects, and environmental conditions in the country.

ADB experts recommended exploring opportunities for expanding greenhouse gas trading (including carbon credits and offsets) globally, using advanced world standards when implementing the ETS and carbon tax in the future.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue and develop cooperation in these areas.
