Uzbekistan amends laws to fight illegal medical products’ turnover
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan’s President Islam Karimov signed on 17 September 2009 a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan” and “On introduction of changes and amendments to the Law of Uzbekistan “On medical means and pharmaceutics activity”.

The first law sets responsibility for production, purchase, storage of low quality or fake medical means or products of medial purpose for realization to population. The law should help to put barrier to illegal turnover of medical products.

Next law introduces corresponding changes and amendments to the Law of Uzbekistan “On medical means and pharmaceutics activity”, which was adopted over 12 years ago.

The laws envisage administrative responsibility for production, purchase, storage of low quality or fake medical means or products of medial purpose and in case of the repeat, the violator will be fined from 100 to 300 minimal size of salary or sentenced to correctional works for three years.

The documents also envisage from five to eight years of jail for production, purchase, storage of low quality or fake medical means or products of medial purpose in large volume, preliminary agreement of group of people, repeated again, conducted with use of official capacity, faking documents, proving quality and state registration of medical products.

The laws also stipulate other punishments for production, purchase, storage of low quality or fake medical means or products of medial purpose.
