Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 19 October, a delegation of Uzbekistan met with the leadership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), headed by President Jin Liqun, in Washington, during which an analysis of the current state of cooperation and implementation of projects was carried out.

The parties positively evaluated the progress in terms of infrastructure construction projects (water supply, sewage systems, road reconstruction) in Bukhara region: two AIIB missions are currently working in accelerated mode in Uzbekistan, while also covering projects in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

They also discussed the intensification of cooperation on rural improvement programs in cooperation with the World Bank, in part of which borrowed negotiations are already underway.

In addition, the prospects of further building partnerships were considered, bearing in mind the involvement of AIIB resources in complex projects for the development of heat supply systems and the introduction of modern resource-saving technologies that will significantly improve the quality of the population’s supply of thermal energy and hot water. It is proposed to implement these projects in co-financing with the European Investment Bank.

Separately, they discussed the prospect of holding the Annual Meeting of the AIIB Governing Council in Uzbekistan in 2024.

Following the meeting, the parties fixed the priority areas for further cooperation and agreed to accelerate the implementation of joint initiatives.
