Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan: Implementation of a joint project discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25-26 July, an international conference "Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development" was held in Tashkent. 

Within the framework of this conference, a regular trilateral meeting of the Project Office on the project for the construction of the railway "Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar" was held in the joint-stock company Uzbekiston Temir Yollari.

The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari A.S. Kamalov, from the Afghan side, Chairman of the Afghan Railway Administration Bakht ul-Rahman Sharafat, from the Pakistani side, Deputy Minister of Railways of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Infrastructure Arshad Salam Khattak. In addition, the event was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan A.A. Muminov and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Uzbekistan Sayyid Ali Asad Gillani.

During the meeting, it was noted that the construction of the Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar railway is the most promising, cost-effective project for Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, providing cargo transportation in this direction, access to the ports of Pakistan via this railway, as well as creating broad transit opportunities for the parties. In addition, it was emphasized that this will contribute to economic development, in particular, the speedy development of the railways of the three countries.

The parties discussed the construction of the Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul - Peshawar railway. In particular, they discussed such issues as conducting a field expedition as part of the creation of a feasibility study for the project and agreed on further work.
