Uzbekistan adopts law to ban private medical practice by individuals
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A law, which forbids private medical practice by individuals, came into force in Uzbekistan on 20 May 2010. On 19 May, the Uzbek President Islam Karimov inked a law “On introduction of changes to articles 10 and 11 of the law of Uzbekistan “On protection of citizens’ healthcare”.

The Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 18 November 2009 and the Senate approved it on 7 May 2010.

The law is directed at improving legal base for carrying our reforms in healthcare system, main task of which is to strengthen legal guarantees for skilled medical services to population of Uzbekistan.

The law introduces changes to article 10 “Private and other healthcare systems” and article 11 “Licensing of medical and pharmaceutical activity”. These changes forbid individuals from carrying out private medical activity in Uzbekistan.

At the same time, legal entities and individuals can carry out pharmaceutical activity if they possess corresponding license. As earlier reported, the Government of Uzbekistan approved a regulation on order of licensing pharmaceutical activity.
