Uzbekistan 31/05/2008 Uzbekistan achieves considerable success in human rights protection - opinion

A briefing dedicated to the 60th anniversary of adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and measures taken by the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan in this field was held in the embassy of Uzbekistan in Belgium, Jahon information agency reported.

Representatives of Belgian political and business societies, European Union and European Parliament, mass media in Brussels took part in the briefing. Briefing participants got acquainted with the consistent measures taken by Uzbekistan in the field of protection of human rights.

Special attention of participants was directed on the fact of care rendered by the government of Uzbekistan for young generation, health and education of youth, purposeful policy in field of provision of rights protection and youth freedom, and also created widely used benefits in all fields of social life. An emphasize was made on strengthening legal basis in considered field, policy in field of supporting young families, young farmers and entrepreneurs, discovering talented people in fields of science, culture, art and sport and also activity of many funds and state programmes directed into creation of favourable environment for education and training of youth.

Organization of the briefing, given information and materials aroused wide interest among participants, evidence of which were their marks and comments expressed after the event.

Thus, F. Lixtmanneger, administrator of department of human rights of General Secretariat of European Union positively valued measures taken in Uzbekistan in framework of celebration of the 60th anniversary of adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 2008 year began in Uzbekistan from coming into force of important solutions about abolition of death penalty and introduction of Habeas Corps institute. Ratification of Action Plan with the presidential decree is another significant step in strengthening basic rights and freedom of people.

J. Dalaney, consultant on legal issues from Belgium noted that the President’s Decree "On the Action Programme dedicated to the 60th anniversary of adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights" certifies that protection of human rights and freedoms is one of priorities of the state. In his opinion, realization of the programme expresses willingness of the state to provision of fundamental principles, and accordingly further active contribution into activity of international society in this field.

A briefing devoted to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Action Programme dedicated to the 60th anniversary of adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights" was also held in the Embassy of Uzbekistan to Cairo. Representatives of socio-political, scientific and analytical, business societies and leading mass media of Egypt took part in the event.

Egyptian representatives highly appreciated successful realization level of reforms and reorganization fulfilled in Uzbekistan. Particularly, Magdy Daif, Advisor of the Minister of Information of Arabian Republic of Egypt noted that during independence years the republic has achieved significant success in human rights protection, the Uzbek government first of all cares about its citizens. Generally accepted democratic principles, safety of national and spiritual traditions are respected and followed in the republic. He notes that measures on provision of human rights taken in Uzbekistan can serve as an example for many developing countries.

Kyoko Nakayama, Advisor of the Prime Minister of Japan, also gave her comments regarding the Decree. She emphasized its importance as a stable guarantor of defending protection of rights and freedoms of Uzbek nation, provision of all necessary conditions for coordination of activities of Uzbekistan national bodies with international organizations and institutions including UN structures.

"Realization of the Decree will certainly bring significant contribution into development of national consciousness, educational process of youth in independent Uzbekistan," said Nakayama. "Taking correspondent legal measures and dynamic activity of the Republic of Uzbekistan in sphere of human right protection can be a good example for other Asian countries".
