Uzbekenergo to build experimental wind energy facility in Tashkent region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo state joint stock company announced a tender on construction of experimental wind energy facility in Tashkent region. In line with the official information, the customer is Kaskad Chirchiq GES Unitary Enterprise.

The organizer of the tender is Uztyajneftegazhimproyekt Institute. The project will be financed due to own resources of Uzbekenergo. The tender winner should supply technologic equipment, services on assembly of equipment, balancing and commissioning, as well as personnel training.

The tender is open for foreign and local producers or suppliers, including to small and medium businesses. The tender results will be announced at the end of 2011.

The first wind energy facility with the capacity of 750 kilowatt was constructed in Charvaq water reservoir in 2010. South Korea’s Doojin Co. Ltd supplied equipment in line with the agreement of Uzbekenergo. The designer is Gidroproyekt. The project implementation will save 1.1 million cubic meters of natural gas a year. Total investments to the project make up US$2 million.

In January 2010, anemometer tower for weather observation with the height of 40 meters was installed at Charvaq water reservoir. The height of main tower is 65 meters and diameter of fans – about 56 meters. According to Uzgydromet specialists, the average annual wind speed in the region makes up 4.3 meters per second, while its speed is 6.6-7.1 meters per second in winter. This should be enough for sustainable work of the wind energy facility.

According to Uzbekenerogo, annually the facility can produce 2.3 million kilowatt-hour of electricity additionally each year. This will help Uzbekistan to save 700,000 cubic meters of natural gas a year. Charvaq project is the largest project on renewable energy in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekenerogo is planning to create part of wind power facilties with evaluated cost of US$250 million. The capacity of the park will make up 100 megawatt, which will allow to produce 170 million kilowatt-hour of electricity.
