Uzbekenergo launches new power line to provide electricity to Surkhandarya region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo state joint-stock company will launch new 500 kilowatt power line on route Guzar substation - Surkhan substation on 1 December 2009.

The company said it will complete construction of new power line by the end of November 2009. The line will be alive on 25 November and it will be commissioned to industrial exploitation on 1 December.

Launch of the power line will allow to provide electricity to Surkhandarya region directly, bypassing Tajikistan.

Uzbekenergo said after the launch of line, Tajikistan can direct the freed volume of electricity, which it earlier delivered to Uzbekistan, to its internal market. The Uzbek company added that Tajikistan can receive electricity to satisfy Sogd district on earlier set schemes.

The US$93 million power line will make it possible to increase export of Uzbek electricity to Afghanistan.

In October 2008, the Islamic Development Bank gave the company a US$42 million loan, which was used to buy necessary equipment for line construction.
