Uzbekenergo announces tender on construction of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Units at Talimarjan thermal power station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo (Uzbek Energy) state joint stock company announced a tender within the project “Construction of Two Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Units 400-450 MW each at Talimarjan thermal power station”.

Tender was announced to select general contractor for construction of two Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Units 400-450 MW each under “turn-key” basis.

In line with tender conditions, the tender proposals will be accepted till 14 February 2011.

The Republic of Uzbekistan has received a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) towards the cost of the Talimarjan Power Project.

Part of this loan will be used for payments under the Contract named above. Bidding is open to bidders from eligible source countries of the ADB.

The contract will be jointly financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan (UFRD). The eligibility rules and procedures of ADB will govern the bidding process.

Uzbekenergo is planning to complete the project on construction of two Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Units by 2014.

CCGT is the most efficient and cleanest option for Uzbekistan. It will improve power generation efficiency from 30% to over 50%, saving fuel and cutting carbon emissions by over 1 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

The project will cost US$1.28 billion. The Government of Uzbekistan attracted ADB loan for US$350 million and loan of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) forUS$300 million. The remaining US$630 million will be financed by the government, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the power utility company.

First power block of Talimarjan thermal power station was commissioned in December 2004. The designed capacity of the block is 800 megawatt. The construction cost was US$400 million.

It is also planned to attract US$140 million loan of the World Bank to another project with the cost of US$250 million. The Uzbek side will cover other part of the project.

The World Bank financed part of the Project will cover construction of a 500/220 kV new substation at Talimarjan TPP; a 218 km 500 kV single circuit transmission line from Talimarjan TPP to Sogdiana substation; and a bay extension at Sogdiana substation. The existing Karakul Gujjar line, passing close by would also be interconnected to the new Talimarjan substation, by a short interconnection.
