Uzbek woman gets nine years in prison for human trafficking
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A court in Uzbekistan’s central Tashkent Region has sentenced a local resident to nine years in prison for human trafficking, the Tashkentskaya Pravda newspaper reported on 4 July.

The newspaper’s article said that a 43-year-old unemployed resident of the region’s Zangiota District, Gulnora Mahmutova, who is a mother of four children, had been accused of trafficking two women to Kazakhstan.

The article said that those two Uzbek nationals had been taken out of the country and sexually exploited.

It said that Gulnora Mahmutova was sentenced to nine years in prison for human trafficking. “After considering the case and based on established facts, the Zangiota district court found Gulnora Mahmutova guilty of committing a crime described in the Uzbek Criminal Code’s Article 135, part 3, clause “a”, and sentenced her to nine years in prison,” the newspaper article said without further specifying the Criminal Code’s mentioned article.
