Economy 22/12/2008 Uzbek, Turkish businesses discuss realization of joint projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Business circles of Uzbekistan and Turkey discussed expansion of trade-economic relations and realization of joint projects at the Uzbek-Turkish Business Forum in Tashkent, Uzbek capital, on 22 December.

The Uzbek-Turkish Business Forum was held within the framework of the visit of Turkish delegation led by Ãœlker Guzel, Deputy Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, to Uzbekistan. The visit will be held on 21-24 December and the visit aimed at further promotimg commercial and economic cooperation between Turkey and Uzbekistan.

Ãœlker Guzel is accompanied by Turkish businesses working in different sectors such as construction and building materials, textile and ready made garments, electric and electronics, agricultural machinery and equipments, other machineries, chemicals, furniture, transportation, leather and shoes who wish to establish new business contacts.

Participants got acquainted with perspectives of bilateral cooperation in various sectors of economy, investment potential of Uzbekistan and opportunities of investment cooperation at the forum.

Businesses of two countries also held negotiations within the forum. The sides considered expansion of trade-economic cooperation and realization of joint investment projects in textile and food industry, electronics, construction materials, machinery, leather-shoe industries and others

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey comprised US$754.3 million in 2007. In ten months of 2008, trade turnover between states grew by 7.6% to US$735.3 million, according to the statistics of Uzbekistan.

About 596 enterprises with Turkish capital work in Uzbekistan, of which 139 enterprises with 100% Turkish investments, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan. The businesses work in such sectors as textile, food, construction materials, chemical and others.

About 93 Turkish companies registered their representative offices at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan. Eight businesses with the Uzbek investments operate in Turkey.
