Economy 18/05/2007 Uzbek tourist centres opened in Islamabad

The Muslim countries should make the best use of their resources to strengthen the economy of one another, said Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Shoazim Minovarov while inaugurating Uzbek Cultural Centres in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Thursday.

Minovarov said that Muslim countries were rich in history and natural resources. Drawing the attention of the participants of the ceremony to the historical places in Uzbekistan, he said there were shrines of Muslim saints and mystics, which were very popular with tourists.

"The opening of tourist centres here in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi would facilitate the local visitors going to Uzbekistan," he said, adding that these centres would encourage tourists from Pakistan to Uzbekistan.

Addressing the ceremony, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Salman Javed said that Pakistan, Uzbekistan, China and Turkmenistan had planned to build a road to increase trade and tourism between these countries. He said a bus service would also be started soon.
