Uzbekistan 25/03/2009 Uzbek-Tajik agreement on state border enters into force

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Tajikistan exchanged ratification notes on entering into force of the agreement on Uzbek-Tajik state border in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 24 March. The agreement was signed by Uzbek President Islam Karimov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on 5 October 2002.

The countries carried out all necessary internal procedures for ratification of the agreement. In line with the article 9 of the agreement, it entered into force on 24 March.

The Agreement approves the line of the major part of the State border between the two states, as agreed to the present day.

The following stage of the work of the intergovernmental commissions of the two countries is the completion of the process of delimitation on the remaining small parts until 2009 and demarcation of the Uzbek-Tajik State border in full compliance with the norms of the international law.

The entering into force of the Agreement will serve to the soonest international and legal establishment of the State border, ensuring its security, as well as further deepening of the cooperation of the two countries on the basis of friendship and good neighborhood, mutual respect and equality of rights.
