Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 4 December 2024, the Chairwoman of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, met with the European Union’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala.
The meeting focused on strengthening Uzbekistan-EU relations, highlighting their positive dynamics and progress toward a new level of cooperation.
Particular attention was given to interparliamentary collaboration, human rights, security, environmental protection, and gender equality. Discussions also included Uzbekistan’s participation in the regional platform of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia and the Asian Women’s Forum.
The importance of the GSP+ program, which grants Uzbekistan access to global markets, was emphasized, along with the necessity of fulfilling obligations under 27 international conventions related to human rights, labor, the environment, and governance.
Both sides recognized the critical role of cooperation between Central Asia and the EU in ensuring regional stability and fostering development. The meeting concluded with a commitment to maintaining active dialogue and working together to deepen the partnership.
