Uzbekistan11/10/2007Uzbek security forces seize over 7 kg of heroin in northwest
Staff of the National Security Service [NSS] in Khorazm Region [in northwestern Uzbekistan] have discovered a large consignment of narcotics. The criminal group that tried to smuggle the dangerous cargo was arrested.
As part of measures against drug trafficking, NSS staff stopped a Tashkent-Urganch bus on the Toshsakam bridge for checking. During a search in the presence of witnesses, 2.5 kg of heroin were found in the driving cab of the bus, whose driver was Davron Ashurov, a resident of Qoshkopir District, and seized.
A more detailed examination of the bus confirmed the suspicions of the NSS staff: this was only a part of the dangerous cargo. A hiding place on the bus steps contained another five kg of this strong drug.
It was found out that Davron Ashurov and Bekturdi Matyoqubov, a man from the same district, were supposed to deliver the heroin, 7.5 kg in total, to Urganch. As a result of a prompt investigation, the organizer of the crime, Quvonbek Rahimov, who is also a resident of Qoshkopir District, was detained too.
A criminal case has been opened and an investigation is under way.
