Uzbek saffron gets access to US markets

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 September, another batch of saffron (crocus) bulbs was planted in Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region, Dunyo news agency reported.

This project has already been carried out for 3 years within the framework of the signed between the companies "BMB Trade Group" (Uzbekistan) and "FIN.OPERA s.r.l." (Italy) memorandum on the cultivation and industrial processing and export of saffron and other medicinal plants.

Today, more than 16 million saffron bulbs have been delivered from the Italian city of Brescia to Uzbekistan, thereby increasing the total saffron plantation field to 305 hectares and reaching an investment of up to 40.4 million euros.

Currently, saffron grown in Uzbekistan has a quality mark of the first category. It is exported to the countries of Europe, Asia, and, according to Bekzod Mamatkulov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMB TRADE GROUP, after a series of certification procedures and checks, Uzbek saffron received permission to access the US markets
