Economy 01/08/2007 Uzbek-Russian trade turnover exceeds US$1.12bn in Jan-May 2007
The foreign trade turnover of the Russian Federation with the Republic of Uzbekistan comprised US$1,121.6 million in January-May of this year, up 55.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, the Russian Federal Customs Service said.

In the same period, foreign trade turnover with the countries of Central Asia in general made up US$8,165.5 million, which is about 27% of its trade turnover with the countries of CIS, according to the Trade Office of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan.

Foreign trade with Kazakhstan exceeded US$6.2 billion (up 44.2%), Kyrgyzstan – US$444.1 million (76%), Tajikistan – US$248.2 million (60.4%), and Turkmenistan – US$135 million (30.3%).

In the reporting period, Russia’s exports to Uzbekistan comprised US$627.7 million, up 65.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. Exports to Kazakhstan totaled US$4,388.2 million (up 51.2%), to Kyrgyzstan – US$365.9 million (103.2%), to Tajikistan – US$198.8 million (68.7%), and to Turkmenistan – US$108.8 million (32.9%). The total volume of exports to the Central Asian countries exceeded US$7,606.3 million, or 39,7% of total exports to the countries of CIS.

In the reporting five months, Russia’s imports from Central Asia comprised US$2,476.1 million (22.3% of total imports from CIS).

Import from Uzbekistan made up US$493.9 million (up 44%), from Kazakhstan – US$1,828.4 million (29.5%), from Kyrgyzstan – US$78.2 million (8.2%), from Tajikistan – 49.4 million (33.7%) and from Turkmenistan – 26.2 million (20.2%).

In January-May 2007, Russia’s foreign trade turnover with the countries of CIS grew by 29.1% to US$30.2 billion. Export to the countries of CIS comprised US$19.1 billion (up 21.7%). Import from CIS exceeded US$11.1 billion (up 44.4%).
