Uzbek president says population income grows by 17.5% in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Income of population in Uzbekistan grew by 17.5% in 2012, while minimal salary level jumped by 26.5%, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The session summed up results of social-economic development of Uzbekistan for 2012 and approved main perspectives of economic programme for 2013.

“It's no secret that the quality of life is determined primarily by the level of income. In the past 2012, it increased by 17.5%, the minimum wage increased by 26.5%,” the President of Uzbekistan said.

He said that real income per capita grew 8.6 times compared to 2000. According to calculation, average salary exceeded the cost of primary basket by over four times, he said.

Uzbek leader said that it is planned to increase salaries of employees of budget organization, pensions, allowances and stipends in average by 23% in 2013. He said that the real income of population will grow by 1.5 times in 2013 and next two years.

Islam Karimov said that share of income from business activities is increasing in income of population. Its share made up 51%, which means that half of all income of people formed due to business activities.

President said that it is necessary emphasize that the ratio of income between 10% of richest population and needy layers of population makes up 8 times, which is one of the lowest figures in the world.

Uzbek head stated that currently 97% of families have their houses and 90% of population has main types of long-term use goods. Each three family has own cars.

According to polls, currently about 50% of population of Uzbekistan identify themselves as middle classes, while the figure stand at 24%, Uzbek President added.

Islam Karimov said that high level of middle class is basis for formation of civil society, important factor for stability and sustainability of the government, confidence of people in future.
