Uzbek President receives envoy of Chinese leader
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Chen Zhili, Vice Chair of Standing Committee at Chinese National People’s Congress, who arrived in Uzbekistan as a special envoy of President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao, at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 6 January 2012.

Greeting the guest, the Uzbek President suggested that from the moment it attained independence, in its aspiration for development and prosperity, Uzbekistan has always counted on the firm support from China – a close and reliable partner.

Vice Chair of Standing Committee of National People’s Congress conveyed the Chinese leadership’s sincere congratulations on the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between our two nations marked these days.

Chen Zhili expressed China’s willingness to make every effort for dynamic advancement of multifarious, mutually advantageous interaction with Uzbekistan in the spirit of Agreement on Partnership Relations of Friendship and Cooperation signed in May 2005, as well as fundamental accords reached during President Islam Karimov’s April 2011 state visit to the PRC.

The parties to today’s talks at the Oqsaroy have noted the steadfast trends in the expansion of bilateral trade that has grown fourfold in the last five years to reach – according to data from the Uzbek side – approximately US$2.2 billion in January-November 2011.

More than 380 enterprises with Chinese capital currently operate in our country, including 58 with 100 percent investments from the PRC. China’s 65 major companies’ representative offices in Uzbekistan have been making their input into consolidation of economic ties.

Further enlargement of Uzbek-Chinese cooperation has been discussed during the thorough conversation at the Oqsaroy.
