Economy 04/10/2007 Uzbek-Polish commodity turnover exceeds US$600m in 2006
The second Polish national exhibition opened in Tashkent on 2 October within the framework of the visit of Polish delegation to Uzbekistan headed by the Deputy Economy Minister of the Republic of Poland Marcin Korolec.

"From the moment of the first exhibition (2004) the commodity turnover between our countries has grown significantly: from US$82 million to US$700 million. These figures show the vast potential of our countries," said Polish official Marcin Korolec.

The second national exhibition demonstrates the growing interest of Polish businesses. The two countries enjoy good relations and bilateral trade is developing in such spheres, as motor-car construction, oil-and-gas sector, production of building materials, as well as in the field of textile and chemical productions and some other directions.

The volumes of export and import transactions have increased almost threefold in the past three years alone. Poland exports to Uzbekistan mainly foodstuff, machines, equipment, car accessories, building and finishing materials, furniture and components, medicals, household chemistry products, while it buys from Uzbekistan cotton, textile articles, chemical industry products.

It should be noted that organization of such large-scale national exhibition for the second time under the high patronage of the Ministry of Economy of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan is the evidence of the level and importance of development of economic cooperation between the two countries, the role of Uzbekistan as a reliable strategic partner of Poland in the region.

Uzbekistan and Poland are interested in expansion of mutual economic collaboration. According to official statistics, commodity turnover between the countries exceeded US$600 million. And virtually all participants of the exhibition noted that it is not the limit. Organizers believe that this exhibition will influence positively the establishment of mutually beneficial business contacts of both countries’ business structures, will promote creation of joint projects and productions.
