Uzbekistan 28/01/2008 Uzbek police detain men carrying heroin in stomachs

"Officers of the division for fighting drug trafficking and illegal drug trade of the interior directorate have detained a so-called "biocontainer", Usmon U., in Denov District of [southern] Surxondaryo Region who looked like rather a "walking corpse" than a live man. And as it was revealed later, there was a reason for that because the suspect carried 68 capsules with heroin, weighing about half a kilo, in his stomach," the report said. It added that the suspect was taken to a hospital where he was relieved of the drugs.

The report went on to narrate about two more men detained at the Qongirot station in western Uzbekistan who were travelling from the northern Tajik town of Khujand to Russia. "As it turned out, natives of [northern] Tajik Sughd Region, Rahim Z. and Giyos U., had thoroughly "charged up" themselves with heroin capsules. Rahim carried 180 capsules with drugs inside him and his friend carried 200 capsules which had a total weight of one kilo," the report said.

In addition, the newspaper reported about a 17-year-old boy who was detained in eastern Andijon Region with over 10 g of marijuana in his pocket. "When the police searched the house of the suspect’s father, Mavlon Z., who has already been convicted several times, they found a whole ’arsenal’ of marijuana packed in various packages and containers which were thoroughly concealed in hiding places. The total weight of the ’weed’ was about nine kilos," the report said.
