Uzbek pilgrims start to perform hajj
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A group of Muslims from Uzbekistan started annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for the hajj this year. This year, about 5,000 Muslims from Uzbekistan left for Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.

The Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world, and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a moral obligation that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so.

The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (God). The pilgrimage occurs from the 7th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.

The Government of Uzbekistan adopted measures on prevention of spread of flu A (H1N1) to the country during hajj period and protection of health of pilgrims and population. Several cases of flu A (H1N1) was registered in Saudi Arabia.

Uzbekistan created special commission and developed a complex of measures on protection of pilgrims and population from the virus.

All pilgrims from Uzbekistan underwent medical examination before the hajj and will be examined after. They were also vaccinated against flue. A group of doctors will accompany the Uzbek pilgrims.
